Ismail had before his arrest had an interviewed with the family of a woman who was allegedly raped and killed last year in Garowe, and the victim’s family had during the interview faulted the court of first instance for releasing the suspects. The journalist in company of his colleagues were detained after they were invited to the court in reaction to the interview.
